Sunshine Mimosa, Mimosa strigillosa, is a semi-evergreen perennial that grows several inches in height. The pom-pom pink to purple flower heads are very striking and are held on stems above the foliage. It is a popular, but aggressive spreading ground cover for landscapes. It is also recommended for natural landscapes, inter-planting in turf, and habitat restorations. The plant, once well established, has deep buried roots that make it very hardy. The foliage is a true sensitive plant foliage that closes when touched or rain drops hit it. Pollinators visit very often.
